The Zeeland West Boys Varsity Track team scored 98.5 against Unity on Tuesday (Unity scored 38.5). Zeeland West Varsity held first place for almost all of the evening. 

The night saw many Dux wins. Jr. Clayton Ramsdell, who set a new PR of 6’4” on the high jump; Sr. Ben Greshaw, who placed first in the 400 meter (52.48a); and Jr. Sam Taylor, who placed first in the 1600 meter (4.56.42a).

amsdell was stuck at a' 6'2  jump and was looking to get higher. Stating, “I hadn't jumped that high in months; I had plateaued at' 6'2. It feels good to beat my goals. Ramsdell went up to 6’4” on his jump Tuesday. We asked what helped Ramsdell get over the 6 '2 spot, he told us “Running faster helped me a lot, and being pushed by my coach.”

Head Varsity Coach Phil Hoover commented, “We had certain goals in mind for today, for each event, and we reached most of them. Proud of the work we did today and goals reached.” Hoover seemed pleased with the work put into the night by the team. There was a sense of accomplishment in the stadium as everyone left Tuesday night.
Dux is headed against West Ottawa Boys Varsity on Saturday, the 3rd.
 

Zeeland West lost to Unity Christian at home Tuesday night 45.5-91.5.

Stand out performers for the Dux included Jr. Amaya Brott, who set a season record and finished 2nd in 300m hurdles. Soph. Kaila Keeler set a PR in the 3200m.

Coach Aaron Kenemer stated, “In general I just thought we had a competitive spirit today with lots of PR’s and encouragement from the team. We are having fun here and we can see the team cheering each other on.”

Brott said, “I thought my meet today went well, especially in the 300m hurdles. I got a season record which I am proud of. The team is always very encouraging and it motivates me to push myself.”

The Zeeland West Boys Varsity Track team placed 4th at the GR Elite Challenge at Houseman Field on Saturday morning. The DUX placed top 10 in most of the events and got PR’s left and right. 

Getting 3rd in the 4x100 with a time of 43.90 was Srs. Keaton Hendricks, Trey Sloothak, Jr. Clayton Ramsdell, and Soph. Brandon Holman. Hendricks placed 1st with a distance of 21-10.00 and Sloothak placed 2nd with a distance of 21-01.00 in long jump. 

Varsity Head Coach Phil Hoover commented, “We competed well today as a team. The weather started off cold but slowly got warmer allowing the boys to get some PR’s. We came in knowing we wouldn’t win the meet but instead we came to win the events I knew our boys could follow through in. Overall the meet turned out really well”.

Jr. Robert Dodd mentioned, “Coming into my 2 mile I was confident enough to reach my goal. Although I didn’t do as well this meet, I'm taking it as a sign to work harder in practice to come to other meets ready for the competition to get more wins on the track for our team”.

The DUX are 2-1 in their conference season and go up against Unity Christian at home on Tuesday afternoon. 

Zeeland West lost to Zeeland East at home on a chilly Tuesday night. The Dux lost 21-116. Despite their relentless efforts in both field events and running, they ultimately ended up losing.

Stand-out performers for the Dux included Fr. Lucy Budnik and Sr. Jordin Robelin, who both scored points in the 200m. Jr. Evie Kleinheksel, who scored points in the 1600m. and Klaasen, who scored points in the 800m.

Coach Kenemer stated, “We didn’t come out with the win today, but I couldn’t be prouder of how hard our girls competed. They showed resilience and true team spirit.”

Sr. Jordyn Klaasen said, “My 800m wasn’t my best, but I felt good while running. Even though it wasn’t the outcome we hoped for, every meet is a chance to learn and grow.”

The Zeeland West Boys Varsity Track team started their season off with a double dual win against Hamilton 84-53, and Holland 123-14 on Tuesday evening at Zeeland Stadium. The DUX placed first in all the sprinter events and swept first and second place in the 1600. They also took all first, second and third place finishes in long jump.

Winning the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.85 and the 300m hurdles with a time of 39.77 was Sr. Keaton Hendricks. Alongside Hendricks, Jr. Keagan Smith placed first in both the 1600 with a time of 4:43.72 and the 800 with a time of 2:05.39. 

Varsity Boys Head Coach Phil Hoover commented, “The effort level within our boys team was good coming into our first meet of the season. The team warmed up well despite the weather being cold but we competed well and came out winning against both teams.”

Smith mentioned, “Going into my 1600 I knew the opponent from Hamilton was really good so my goal was to beat him. I started off slow and started to take off faster and faster which led me to end up winning.”

The DUX began their season off strong and have another invitational varsity meet up at Rockford High School on Friday this week. 

Zeeland West beat Hamilton and Holland at home Tuesday night in cool and windy conditions. The Dux beat Hamilton 86-50 and Holland 87.5-49.5. With a balanced attack in both field events and running the Dux were able to beat both opponents rather one-sidedly. 

Stand out performers for the Dux included Sr. Jordin Robelin, who scored points in the 100m and long jump. Soph. Sam Koppenol who scored points in the 400m, 4x800 and high jump.

Coach Kenemer stated “Today was a good learning opportunity. The athletes got to see what events they like to run and us coaches can see where they fit best. Overall I think we did great for the first meet and came out with a win for both girls and boys” Soph. Sam Koppenol said “My 4x800 did not go as planned but it was fun and a good learning experience. I also think my jump went well.”
