The Zeeland West Varsity Girls Volleyball team dominated from the outset against the Holland Dutch. They won the first 2 sets with ease, had a challenging start to the third set but held it together to get the 3-0 win. Evie Elenbaas led the team in kills with a total of 12, followed by Hannah Vanderzwaag who had 7. Elle Creevy also had a terrific game getting 17 assists.
Head Coach Chris Mack had a couple comments on the game, “We came in saying that we wanted to sweep and we did. The third set was a little messy, but we did great the first two games. They were swinging hard and passing well. It got a little sloppy in the third set, but I think, you know, energy wise, we stayed with it the whole time.”
Jr. Hannah VanderZwaag stated, “We had a lot of good energy, and I think everyone is happy that we have a five game winning streak.”

They had the lead in the second set, but the Chix were able to come back and tie up the match1-1. The pressure was on for the Dux in the third set, but the Chix won. The match was 2-1. The fourth set was crucial for the Dux. They played a tough game, but the Chix took the win in the end. Sadie Kragt had a solid game with a total of 5 kills and 1 assist. Hannah Vanderzwaag had 4 kills and 1 assist. Elle Creevy had 7 assists and Kylie Glass added another 5 assists. 25-23, -25, -25, -25
Head coach Chris Mack stated, “We had them in the first set. We were up 20-16 in the second set and were putting a ton of pressure on them. They felt it and they were swinging poorly. Once they get rolling they’re a great team. We’ve got to figure out how to keep our consistency so that we can continue the pressure all the way through the match, because in the third and fourth games, we weren’t able to put pressure on them and they were able to swing freely.”
When we asked Sadie Kragt about her takeaways from the game, she said, “I think the match went pretty well. East is a very solid team and we knew there was really no pressure on us, so we played our best.”
The Dux play the Hamilton Hawkeyes on September 18th.
